Thank Heaven for Little Girls

Wasn't there some French dude by the name of Maurice Chevalier who sang this song?  WAY before my time - hey, I'm only 39!

My point being, it seems that the majority of cat lovers are women.  Although I know there are many men who love them too!  But it seems that most rescue groups are made up of the female species.  And I was also referring to Laura Burns from Habitat for Cats - President to be exact!, who has been a trooper for the past four mornings out in the hood, sitting in her car in the dark, hoping to trap a kitty on my 'route' that is slowly dying due to a hernia hanging from its belly.  And I was also referring to her partner in crime, Lori Whipple, who, despite her tiny size, has the biggest heart around.  She has also done some major trapping in the areas I go into, and continues to want to help.  Thank heaven for these girls - I love them.  I honestly just couldn't do it without their help.

Maryleigh, the insane woman from around the corner, was lurking in the shadows at the same time I was at this corner on Webster Avenue.  I yelled out to her that she had better stay away from this property, she didn't respond, just kept walking.  I didn't want Laura's efforts interrupted by her, again.

I received a call yesterday from her neighbor Mary, who lives next door to her on Webster Crescent, that a city truck had just pulled up - apparently was called to remove a dead animal.  That animal was a baby kitten in a plastic bag.  The person that called must have been Maryleigh.  I believe ML is a very cunning psychopath.  I believe that if she calls the city to remove the animals she is killing, she won't have the evidence around to be charged with.  I really don't know her thinking at all, but she must be stopped.  Her neighbor was crying when she told me.  The city worker was disturbed when he saw what was in the bag.  In my opinion, this was evidence, taken away by the city, but the Humane Society doesn't seem to be moving on this already 'open investigation' on her.

I had little Pixie in my bathroom overnight.  I had her spayed yesterday at the clinic, and it was the hardest thing to do when I had to return her to the streets this morning.  She is just shy of a year old, has already had a litter of kittens, was lactating, and the clinic recommended I return her as soon as possible.  God only knows where her kittens are, or if they are still alive.  At some point of my sitting with her, she purred.  Pixie from Parsells Avenue has not had much contact with humans, so was very frightened of me, but she actually purred.  THESE are the cats that need to be removed from the streets.  The ones that you can socialize, and take them away from a life of misery and suffering on the streets.  We just don't have enough people willing to foster or adopt these cats.

Please spread the word.  Please consider foster or adoption for one of these angels out there.  And don't forget Squirt still needs a home!  :)  She is six weeks old today!  Emmett and Pip will be going to their new homes on Sunday!

SEE YOU AT THE FUNDRAISER TOMORROW!!!

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

A Prayer For Animals

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals,
especially for animals who are suffering;
for animals that are overworked, underfed and cruelly treated;
for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars;
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted
or frightened or hungry;
for all that must be put death.

We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals,
and so to share the blessings of the merciful.
