Catch of the Day!

Well Hello Tippy Toes!  Finally, after days of waiting for Tip to show, this morning he was waiting.  Tippy has endured all sorts of weather - I've been feeding him on Central for a few years now, and he has seen some pretty severe weather.  The last time I saw him, last week, he was taking cover in the plastic tote I set near the road under a tree (still wonder how no one has taken it - YET - because they will - they surely will).  I don't think he realizes it yet, but he will be grateful for a 24/7 safe warm house as he begins his next chapter of life.  Hooray!  By the way, he was named because he has a little white toe on the back leg, and my friend Sunday Sheryl suggested his name.  Love it.  Tippy is gorgeous by the way, beautiful long haired black coat.

His buddy, a long haired black, just like Tippy, although he has a white stripe down his nose, kind of skunk like, is next.  He is beautiful, and doesn't need to be sleeping in a Styrofoam box for the rest of his life either.

Someone stole a board I had set on a porch that was open to the westerly winds on Pennsylvania, and it kept some of the wind and snow from covering the food and shelters I have there.  I walked away feeling quite disheartened, and once again, losing my faith in people.  Not everyone, I know, but so discouraged.  Each time someone takes something, or wrecks something, knowing its helping a homeless animal, it just breaks away at me, I lose faith in the people in those neighborhoods.  I've been feeding there for so long, I figured seeing that I've never had a real problem with them, that they had come to accept me, and respect me, for what I was doing.  But when someone does this, you have to wonder what they are thinking about me, and why.  There is a cat that takes shelter underneath the porch.  I must remember to bring some straw and stuff it in there.  It is enclosed on all other sides, so its a good shelter - I don't know whats underneath there, but in better weather, I will get the flashlight and check it out.

Update on Butterscotch, one of the kittens I've been 'fostering' since he was rescued by Kristin and Kristin's friend who's brother owns the property there.  He is about 8 months old, and pure love - WHEN you can catch him.  I would say he is semi-feral at this point.  I had him in a tiny bathroom for a while when I first got him, trying to socialize him, but then started to feel sorry for him being in this skylighted bathroom that he couldn't see out of, couldn't socialize with the other cats, and I thought letting him out would do some good for his anti-social behavior.  Well, he had a ball slinking around the house at night, playing with toys, other cats, but he never got over the fear of people.  So, every other day, I find him, corner him, and then maul him to death with kisses, until I hear his motor running.  He is a big purrer when he trusts.  Here he is this morning after I let him loose. He rolled around the floor, let George give him kisses, and then jumped up on the chair and tucked himself into the crook of the pillows.  Such a cutie!

  2. How many cats have you rescued since January 1st? This year I am going to keep track as you get them instead of going through a year's worth of blogs. I think it is to 4 now? 5? AMAZING. I have big boards if you need to replace any. Just let me know and we'll get them down there. xoxo -Kristin
