Time

Time is precious, obviously for many reasons.  We have only so much time, each of us, all different.  When its our time, that's it.  Lights out. I've been thinking about death too much lately as there are many in my family getting older, family I am close to, and its going to be terrible when we have to go through with the next one.  And there is always a next one.  If its not me first.  If it is it will be a blessing so that I don't have to suffer the sadness.

Sorry to be so maudlin, I am just down down down this morning.  I spent so much time this morning trying to feed, and trap.  I spent an hour and a half - I know that doesn't seem like a lot of time for some of  you, but it is for me.  At four in the morning, especially.  I set FOUR traps out over the span of the Beechwood neighborhood, hoping #1 to catch the mom of the four kittens I rescued Saturday on Garson, but wound up instead getting a very big fat raccoon there, that spat and hissed at me all the while I tried to get the latch open for him to leave the trap.  I left the traps alone for over an hour, still nothing.  I can't tell you the feeling of being allowed two spots at the clinic for getting these cats from the streets fixed, and given their shots, only to not get anything - knowing you have to wait another entire week to do this.  And then what if you don't get one then again.  I know I am not doing anything wrong, I know how to trap, have done so successfully hundreds of times in the span of 20 years, but I just had no luck this morning.

Not to mention, I received a call from a woman I know who said she had a very pregnant cat feeding on her porch.  I set the trap there at 4 am., came back at 5:30 and still nothing.

Its just a very overwhelming disappointed feeling to have.

On the other hand, I did grab this one.  This girl has been hanging around Sid & Johnny's Auto Garage on Bay Street for a month now.  She is friendly, scared a bit, but finally started to let me pet her.  I was not ready to rescue her, with Carter still in my house, but I didn't want to go totally empty handed to the clinic this morning.  So, meet Blossom.

BLOSSOM from Bay Street
And now for some good news:

CHARLIE living the life!

An update on Charlie!  Charlie was a rescue from Central and Third a few months back.  I've had my eye on this tiger for a long time now.  He was so shy for so long, running to and front the corner of Second Street to Third Street when he saw my Jeep.  He finally was able to trust me, after a long winter, and I was able to touch, and then grab him.  I am so grateful he let me!  From his Dad Ray:

"We are doing great and hope you’re well too. All those things. His eye gets better for a while then goes downhill. I got him back on the drops twice a day now. Going into his second week. Every morning he come into my bed and we cuddle. Charlie gets a lots of exercise. He runs through the whole house playing with his imaginary friend. He has plenty of toys to play with too and at night we play too.

I have a cat stoop in the middle of my bow window which he can sit on and watch the whole world outside and all the cats in the neighborhood. Also have one for the back window to look at the backyard but he has not got on it yet.

He eats and uses the litter box well too. He cleans himself a lot and drinks plenty of fresh water. We are the best of friends. Follows me everywhere. When I go out he is at the door to welcome me home.  I really spoil him."

“Dare to Be

When a new day begins, dare to smile gratefully.

When there is darkness, dare to be the first to shine a light.

When there is injustice, dare to be the first to condemn it.

When something seems difficult, dare to do it anyway.

When life seems to beat you down, dare to fight back.

When there seems to be no hope, dare to find some.

When you’re feeling tired, dare to keep going.

When times are tough, dare to be tougher.

When love hurts you, dare to love again.

When someone is hurting, dare to help them heal.

When another is lost, dare to help them find the way.

When a friend falls, dare to be the first to extend a hand.

When you cross paths with another, dare to make them smile.

When you feel great, dare to help someone else feel great too.

When the day has ended, dare to feel as you’ve done your best.

Dare to be the best you can –

At all times, Dare to be!”

  2. Charlie looks very happy !
Love his fat little bulldog front legs and paws.
You can just tell he loves his new life.
I'm sure I if he could see his old street buddies again he'd tell them -
"Let the human female take you away ! You'll be living like kings and queens at a ritzy ditzy cat show !"

  3. What a wonderful, sweet update on Charlie! He sounds like he's got a great dad who's taking very good care of him. I'm so happy for both of them. It just doesn't get any better than that!
Bummer about the trapping. Better luck next time! Instead of sardines in the traps, perhaps some caviar would be more suited to the kitties' delicate palettes? ;)
