Its Back!

Mojo has returned.  I have a little pep in my step this morning.  Thank you to those that comment and support me - without you...  well, I don't know what I would do.  But it sure does help.

7 degrees, a trace of snow overnight.  What is it with this weather?  Its ruthless.

Its getting easier because the snow is more compact to walk on, without new snow, my path is clearer to get to the cats.  And they are all waiting.  I have been picking up and holding one on Sixth Street that I have been feeding for a couple of years now.  She, or he, (haven't felt back there, and can't remember what it was when it was spayed/neutered a year and half ago or so) is shy, but cries now and stays the distance of a finger, and when I touch her nose, she inches close enough for me to pick her up and hold her, pet her, speak gently to her, and tell her she is next in line for rescue.  A sweet little thing.  But scared.  She has been out there far too long and now needs our help.  Anyone willing to foster until she gets a home?  The way my luck has been going (or I should say the kitties luck), chances are they will have a forever home soon after!

Its Friday, I am thrilled that I will have more free time for the whole two days of the weekend, more time for myself, cook, spend more time with my own kitties, and tomorrow morning, deliver Sooty to his new home! I can't stress enough, Sooty is a very good cat.  Turns out he is less than a year, he loves to be held, he doesn't mind the bell collar I put on his neck, thinking he would hide when I let him out amongst the general population on Tuesday, but he didn't, and he is a true cuddler.  He starts off sleeping on my bed at night, and jumps off later, but again, a nice little kitty.  These cats obviously must have had some interaction with humans at some point in their lives, but they are left outdoors for the majority of their lives, unneutered and unspayed, reproducing at their leisure.  Sooty is very skinny too, very boney, so he was surely in need of this rescue!

Thank you to each of you that read this and support me.  I have said it before and will say it again, without you, this would be the hardest job in the world.  Its just easier knowing people think of me, and donate when you are able.  I have met some of the kindest people in the world through this.  And I have re-established my faith in old friends too.  Compassion for animals is ultimately associated with good character, and I am lucky to have such good people in my life.  You obviously were raised by compassionate parents.

Speaking of being raised, I read the following and found it to be great advice for those with young children:

Teach Kindness by Example

Incorporating simple concepts of kindness and respect into kids’ daily lives is simple and fun! The easiest and most important way to teach your little ones empathy is to lead by example.

• Listen to yourself with new ears—don’t yell “shut up,” “stupid dog,” or other hurtful things.
• Never hit animals.
• Show that you value animals’ lives by being patient with them, making sure that they all wear an ID tag, spaying or neutering them to prevent unwanted litters, giving them plenty of clean water, and providing regular veterinary care.
• Include your animals in your life. Allow your dog to live inside with the family, and spend time with your animal companions daily, brushing them, playing with them, and walking them.
• Sometimes tiny creatures wander into our homes—help them find their way out nonviolently.
• Avoid statements that demean animals—even those made in jest—such as “I hate cats” or “Chickens are stupid.”
• Remember that toys influence children. Don’t buy toys that even hint at animal exploitation, such as video games that allow children to kill animals or model zoos or circus trains.
