I am seeing so many new cats at my spots these days. I don't know where they come from. And kittens! I don't mean newborn, but they are about 6 months old. What needs to be done is a big TNR sweep - like the one years ago where several members of the old Another Chance Pet Rescue, and a few others to help them, came into the Beechwood section, and under the information I gave them, managed to trap, neuter and return between 30-50 cats. This was several years ago, and it made a dent. But one cannot get all the cats, and remember, ONE unneutered or unspayed cat can produce hundreds from their offspring. And that is what happens. And that is what has happened. Even though I did that amount in a year, its only me doing it. There are now an average of at least two cats at nearly each of my locations that need to be done - and these are the ones that I CAN see I need help.
Here is the rundown:
Parsells - There are two grey tabby kittens there, but I don't know who the mother is - the two older kitties there, who now get closer to me as I go on the porch to feed them, are both done;
Stout - Neck Wound Kitty and a red and white kitty, one needing medical attention, and most likely neutering.
Garson and Chamberlain - Grey tabby kitten
Ferndale and Webster - Small red
Central and Fifth - many unneutered males
Pennsylvania and Second - there are two black with white cats here, they look like females - both need done.
Pennsylvania and Fourth - two kittens here, both grey tabbies.
Just this morning, when picking up Nancy, who has been riding with me on and off, I saw a very young kitten behind a building on East Main and Goodman. I placed food and water down, but it ran.
As I dropped off Nancy at her apartment building there when finished with feeding, I saw a rat scurrying around that same building. Pretty sad stuff out there. I still need someone to help me get my shelters out of this garage. The rain and cold are coming. These babies need shelter.
Sorry to be so bleak. Its not all like that, remember that. There are many good people out there trying their best to help, but for me personally, I need more help building shelters, feeding cats, getting them spayed and neutered, and helping to pay for all of this.
I wish you all a good day.
"Love animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled.
Do not trouble their joy, don't harass them, don't deprive them of their
happiness, don't work against God's intent. Man, do not pride yourself on
superiority to animals; they are without sin, and you, with your greatness,
defile the earth by your appearance on it, and leave the traces of your foulness
after you--alas, it is true of almost every one of us!"

Janine, are you still actively trapping? -carol
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, yes, when I can. I took a small break for a couple of weeks when overwhelmed with the kittens, but am still doing one or two almost every week. I have two spots next week. One spot is already going to a man who reached out to me for help with the four two month old kittens on his porch, and unspayed mother outside his door. :(
