WISH LIST

Meow Mix plastic cups - wet food.

Well my day started off hopeful yesterday, knowing I had finally captured poor Patches.  But when I got in my car to come home from work, the check engine light came on, and I knew I had a problem.  But then I knew I REALLY had a problem by the time I pulled into my driveway and began to smell gas fumes, and saw that there was gas leaking from under the car.  I have been ignoring sounds that shouldn't be there for a long while now, and now here I am, facing an enormous challenge.  Money.  I frantically called a garage in Webster that has done work for me recently on the Jeep (which by the way, is not a trusting vehicle either), and they couldn't guarantee a look at it until Monday.  They are that booked.  They referred me to another place down the road, which after calling, can take a look at the car today.  Problem is, I need it towed.  I can't drive the car knowing there are gas fumes and leaking.  So here I sit waiting for the tow truck, dreading what I will find out today.  The car is 10 years old and just under 100,000 miles.  :(

As far as cats go, Patches was given a shot of convenia, had his manhood removed, and off he went to Hilton, under the care of a kind girl who posted on Facebook "my first foster".  So so so so thankful to her.  There is just one more that is in dire need to be rescued, Prince on Parsells, due to his obvious URI, which I have been treating by sneaking in doxy into his wet food, which I now have to stand there to make sure he is eating it.  He did this morning.  Such a good boy.  He is lovable and sweet and would make a wonderful companion to someone.

Polly's Mom and sibs are still out on the street - PARSELLS

Polly after her rescue!

Little Polly was spayed, to my surprise, because of her size and weight, she is so so tiny, but they did it and she looked happy and healthy when she returned here.  I figure she is about five months old.  Then, her new mom Vera came and brought her to her new home!  Hurray!

CLOE

Little Cloe, the one with the bite wounds also went to the clinic yesterday.  One wound is still not healing properly.  She was put on yet ANOTHER antibiotic, and off she went under the care of foster mom Susan.  I held her briefly after her vet visit, and she is SO loving.  Just wouldn't leave my side, and purr purr purr.  She is a sweet little love.  Can't wait for her to heal and find her a loving home also.

On 2nd and Pennsylvania, I have been feeding a muted calico that supposedly belongs to the woman next door to the boarded up house on the corner, and her name happens to be JaninA.  A Spanish woman, she seemed very nice when I spoke to her.  She said her cat is outdoors, and after asking if she was spayed, she replied she thinks so.  After seeing her all summer, I assumed she was.  She runs into the road to greet me each morning.  She will be hit one of these days.

This past week I've noticed household items by the curb, and it didn't look like regular garbage.  In these neighborhoods, you always see someone's life on the curb after they have been evicted.  They leave just about everything they possess for the landlord to take care of.  This morning, I felt this kitty's belly, thinking 'boy, she is getting fat from the food I feed her' and she IS pregnant.  She, along with a beautiful grey and white cat that now lets me feel her belly as of today, are both pregnant.  I am begging if anyone has a spot at a clinic tomorrow, please, we need to do something.  Please remember, for each kitten born, TEN+ kittens are euthanized around this country.  I know those figures are wrong, its much higher, but we must end this cycle.    If anyone can get these precious girls in, we need to do it NOW.

Thanks, and have a great day.  Oh, and by the way, spider season is here.  I am walking through some big, gross webs in the dark!  EEEUUUWWWWWWWW  :(

Pic I took on Niagara Street, one of my old feeding spots.  YIKES!
PS, since written above, the tow truck driver saw my gas line was broken.  :(

TNR Tuesday!

GOTCHA!  After three days of not spotting our sick and wounded red kitty, he was there this morning.  I had the carrier all set ready to grab him and place in the carrier, went up to porch, up came Prince, and the other brown sweet tabby, all ready to eat, and I waited, patiently to put wet food down.  He didn't come up to the porch.  He remained under the bushes.  I placed the carrier back into truck, set trap up, and took off to do next couple of feedings.  I came back around and nothing. They are on to me.  So I put the trap back in the truck, got out the carrier again, and brought the wet food back up.  I started to place some into each bowl, and slowly, here he comes.  He came close enough that I was able to grab him from the front, around his neck, and hold tight enough to get him into the carrier.  He was not happy, and I am sure extremely frightened.  Covered the carrier and off we went for the rest of the route.  I snapped this pic when we got home. I assured him all would be well.  Click on pic to see up close.

PATCHES (Patch for short!)
I named him Patches because he has some patching up to be done at the doctors.  :(

I was only able to do this confidently knowing that someone, a few days ago on Facebook, offered to take him after his vetting today.  I haven't heard from her yet, so I am praying she meant it.  I will have to release him if I don't hear from her.  :(  I also determined that on top of being wounded, he has a severe upper respiratory infection.  I will also have him leukemia tested.  Poor boy.  He is scared.

Cloe (Sevigny - Second Street) is going in for another look at the clinic today.  Dr. Bender will determine if she will continue with her meds, or can go off them.  I am told that her wounds look better since I saw her Sunday.  She is being fostered along with the four baby kittens, which she doesn't much care for I am told!  This poor girl has been through a lot!

Peaches went in to the vet yesterday.  She had been drooling slightly from the mouth and nose and it was determined that she has an upper respiratory infection.  After a shot of convenia, this morning she was SO much better.  Spirited little girl she is.

As I pulled up to Third and Central this morning, a new black kitty I'd never seen RAN to me.  Starving, obviously.  I could tell from her saggy belly that she was a new mother.  I wonder where her kittens are.  It broke my heart.

And then on Pennsylvania and Second, for the past week or so there has been a gray and white cat hanging around, and gobbling the food after I step away.  I was able to feel her this morning, they learn to trust, and she feels pregnant.  I thought to myself, I can't grab her, I have nothing to put her in but the trap, and she won't go for that.  I felt horrible leaving her there.

I have determined that after I place food and water down at the two shelters I have set up on Short Street for Whiskers, Buttons, and a few others, that an army of rats descend upon them.  There is not a drop of food or water left when I arrive each morning.  But you can always hear the rats.  And occasionally find one dead on the sidewalk.  I picture the movie BEN, with throngs of rats surrounding the plates.

Please consider foster or adoption for some of these babes on the street.  Its such a good feeling knowing you have provided a better life for these animals, who have nothing.

Hope - Don't Ever Lose It

(CLICK ON PICS TO ZOOM IN)

The facts:

A girl and her mom came over Saturday morning to meet Stripey and Dot.  It was instant love.  They were whisked to their new home (I will be going there Saturday to give my final stamp of approval!) and both were renamed (surprise surprise).  Their new names are Ellie and Gracie.  Sweet.  I think they are going to be two very spoiled fur balls.  On Saturday afternoon, a friend/ex-coworker came over to meet and greet Polly and Peaches.  She chose Polly, and that too was instant love connection.  She took her home for that night to meet her ‘big brother’.  I think this is going to be one spoiled little girl also.  On Sunday morning, a couple came to meet Peaches.  They too fell in love, and Peaches will be going to her new home on Saturday also!  Woo HOO!  That is four kitties adopted this weekend!

Oh oh!  Wait!  Forgot to tell you, Noodles was officially adopted last weekend by a wonderful couple, June and Gary.  Thanks so much you guys, for taking in this sweet, birth defective kitten rescued from Niagara.

Now, we need to get Skinnie Minnie, Nora, Franci (pants), Benson, Elvis, Jelly, Cloe, and Nora’s four kids – Barney, Billy, Gidget and Widget all adopted!

Cloe’s wound is still open, raw.  I feel so bad for her.  Her foster mom Sue is doing the best for her.  She continues to be examined by Dr. Bender at the clinic.  Her next visit is Tuesday, tomorrow, so see if her meds need to be continued.  I pray this little girl, who has been to hell and back, will get better soon.   For those of you that don’t know, she was bitten by some large animal, very deep deep wounds, and the morning I rescued her, I didn’t even know she had them, her fur covered them.  She walked right up to me behind a house on Second Street.  I have seen her mother and siblings here and there since.

Cloe

Cammy, the sweet sweet boy I rescued from Central and Fifth, and was picked up by a rescue group to be adopted out by, has tested positive for FIV.  Here are some great facts to know about FIV cats.  They live long and healthy lives, if kept indoors.  My Brady, George and Smokey all have it!  J  And they are fat and happy!

Cammy

FIV Facts
  • The Feline Immuno-deficiency Virus is a slow virus that affects a cat's immune system over a period of years.
  • FIV is a cat-only disease and cannot be spread to humans or other non-felines.
  • FIV cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all.
  • FIV is not easily passed between cats. It cannot be spread casually in litter boxes, water and food bowls, or when snuggling and playing. It is rarely spread from a mother to her kittens.
  • The virus can be spread through blood transfusions, badly infected gums, or serious, penetrating bite wounds. (Bite wounds of this kind are extremely rare, except in free-roaming, unneutered tomcats.)
  • A neutered cat, in a home, is extremely unlikely to infect other cats, if properly introduced.
  • FIV-positive cats should be kept as healthy as possible. Keep them indoors and free from stress, feed them a high-quality diet, keep and treat any secondary problems as soon as they arise.

I did not rescue any more cats over the weekend.  But boy did I want to.

Prince on Parsells is still begging me to take him away from there.  I am slipping him Doxy into his wet food to try to help with his URI.  I have not seen the sick orange cat in three mornings now.  Parsley just down the street is extremely affectionate now with me and desperate to get off the street also.  I am so sad when I leave these two.

TGIFF!

Man oh man...  so much stuff!

POLLY (wog)

The day has gotten away from me.  This will be brief.

I placed another sign on Parsells - "Does Anyone Care???"  I am trying to make a statement - whether the people that live there care, or not, but maybe someone, just someone might drive by and think about it.  Do something.  Thats all.  I will never stop trying, in any possible way that I can, as long as I am still breathing, to be a voice for these animals.  Parsells is the worst of the worst that I have seen.  There are kittens and homeless cats ALL OVER the place, breeding, and dying.  Just this morning, the gay man, Jeff, who lives houses away from where I posted the first sign, from where my first real stop is, and who was sitting with little Peaches on his lap the morning I rescued her, came up to me and asked if I could take another.  He said this one was an adult, and very sweet.  He said she was a mess, but very friendly.  I told him No Jeff, I cannot take anymore right now.

The filth that is strewn in front of the houses on nearly two entire blocks of Parsells is enough to scare you.  You have to wonder, how can people live like this?  How can you subject your children to this?  They care not for their property, not for themselves, and not for the animals that are living, and dying under their noses.

Please help me to speak up for these animals.  Please donate to the clinic under my name 585-288-0600, so that I can continue to spay and neuter, please donate food so that I can continue to feed the 70+ cats I feed daily, please consider foster, please consider adoption, please consider helping me occasionally.  I could use a break.

Have a nice day.

Parsells

Lets begin with this.  I took all these pictures this morning.  ZOOM IN ON THE PICTURES BY CLICKING ON THEM.  I quickly made up a poster to post on a tree on Parsells this morning, directly above where I rescued this poor little creature yesterday morning (naming her Poppy for now), and had to leave her mother, siblings, and a gazillion others, to eat out of the tiny bowl of food, and bowl of water I left beneath it yesterday.  I believe this is a powerful message to those that actually will notice it, whether they live there, or are driving by.   As i thought about it during my route, I thought I would like to get a couple dozen of them made, and post them on trees as I go along.  I just need a poster board, and two nails for each.  Its supposed to rain for the entire weekend, so would need to waterproof.  Lets see if it wakes the city up at all.

Just as I drove away from here, I spotted something in the road, which put the nail in the coffin that something needs to be done about this street.  It is overrun with unspayed/unneutered cats.  We have GOT to do something.  The sadness engulfed me as I wrapped this poor young tabby in a towel, that I had been feeding for ages, where Parsley hangs, and placed him on the side of the road under a tree.  Again, this is PARSELLS.

Back to our injured, or sick, orange kitty. I was offered a temporary situation for him, but I do need a foster, and a plan before I pick him up.  I also need to have him gain trust in me.  I slowly was able to pet his head while he ate this a.m.  I am also sneaking in Doxy into his wet food -  you can see a chunk of it in the wet food if you click on the pic.  He has something going on with his eye, and it sounds like respiratory issue.  I am just praying someone offers to take him in and care for him and we can then work together on getting him adopted out.  He may be the sweetest thing in the world, which they usually are.  We just don't know right now about this little boy (unneutered also).  He doesn't appear to be in dire straights, but he does appear to be sick, and/or slightly injured.

This pretty boy on Garson sits next to my car when I leave.

This new, unaltered kitty is waiting for me each morning at Baldwin and Grand.

Been feeding this grey baby for a long time now.  Central and Fifth.  He used to eat the food I placed for Cammy.

Third and Central:  These sweethearts keep their distance, but know me when I arrive.

This beautiful sweet boy has not allowed me to pet him, after months of keeping his distance.  He is sleek, and beautiful.

Well what do we have here?  Still Central and Third.  Click on the pic to see!  IF you can believe it, I actually grabbed those bowls and filled them on the ground, and put them back, all the while keeping my distance from this guy!

This baby red kitten is still on Niagara.  I believe it is Noodles sibling.  My heart sinks each morning.  I had asked someone to try to trap it, but it never happened.  :(  I hate leaving the little ones.

Parsley.  His adoption fell through.  He is so sweet, and so sad.  I want to find him a home before the winter sets in.  He is a throw away.

Please consider helping me make signs to post around the streets.  Maybe someone from the city government will notice.  Maybe someone will do something, get this noticed by someone who can make a difference for these animals.

I also need flea medicine.  I will never buy Frontline Plus again.  This little baby I rescued yesterday, POPPY, still has them after I applied a vial to her yesterday.  I also need paper salad bowls, and cat food.

Thank you for helping me to help them.

Have a nice day.

Doesn't Anybody Care?

This is a sign I am going to make up today, and hammer into this tree pictured just below.  This is Parsells Avenue, a street where there are more cats and kittens and injured animals than ANY of my other 17 locations that I drive to EVERY SINGLE MORNING and place food and water down, most have some shelters - this one does not.  By the time I leave Parsells Avenue, I have fed nearly 20 cats.  And those are the cats that I can see, and are waiting for me.  Picture below, this is a mother cat and one of her kids that I had to leave behind.  As I drove home this morning, I said out loud.  Doesn't anyone care???  Most of the folks that live on this street could care LESS what their property looks like, or their house, or their porch, or could care for themselves, let alone the animals.  But I am going to place this sign there, in handwritten words - DOESN'T ANYBODY CARE???  For all to see.  Wake up people.  This is serious.  There are so many unneutered cats on this street, so many kittens.  The mother cat below has a hematoma on her left ear.  Baby doesn't look too healthy either.

But when I pulled up to these cats, momma and another baby just sat by these empty bowls.  I was able to grab the tiny baby next to mama, and here she is now, in my bathroom, safe. She is about 6 mos. old, maybe?

This is the reason why fostering is SO IMPORTANT.  We need more people to step up and say "I'll help." - just get kitty off the street."  Together we will find a home eventually.

The following was from a post I read this morning on FACEBOOK, someone had shared the picture of the injured cat on Parsells ---

Sick and possibly injured:
(excerpt from Janine's Blog today) The cat below is severely injured and I've had to walk away from it for the past three mornings. He is on Parsells. His eye is droopy, he looks injured. He comes right up on the porch to gobbble the food down, he is starving. The reason I cannot grab him is I have no where to take him. I CANNOT rescue again until I have a foster. PLEASE consider, he needs help!

  • Lynne Perry Yea, I tried to figure it out too, but the poster Sheryl seems to have a closed page... with so many rescue shelters in the area, I'm not clear why she can't transport him if she can catch him. She said the only reason she can't catch him is she doesn't know where to take him! What? I would get this kitty and have it in placement with a day or two. I don't get it.

  • Janine Wagner Lynne, I am a one man band, with one low income, and one tiny house. If you will notice from my blog, I have been rescuing a cat every week, and have used up my fosters, the few I have, and have every room filled at my house. It costs me $50 to bring a cat in for spay/neuter at the clinic, which I just spent $100 on yesterday for two. I get calls from people to help them. I drive down this street every single morning and feed an average of 20 cats (PARSELLS). I drive away from the most pitiful things you can imagine - I need help. Please, if you want me to do something about this cat, come out with me and help me. I am feeding on a dilatpidated porch where next door, a family lives that if they catch me, I will lose this feeding spot for so many animals that feed here. Also, he only comes up because he is starving, I don't think he will allow me to grab him. I set a trap yesterday, but got a female baby instead. So, thats the story.

  • Janine Wagner PS, I hope you don't think I was angry - I am frustrated at having to leave these animals. The mother cat above has a hemtoma on its ear... Its horrendous. I also TNR'd a kitten 7 mos and had to return her this morning! Its horrible.

Now, I don't want people to think I was angry with my response, but I am frustrated, as already stated above.  I need help.  I can't do this alone.  I must have finances for the clinic to spay and neuter, I must have food donated to me.  I am out in the trenches 365 days a year, at 4 am. so that people don't see me, so that I am not harmed (this is the safest time of day).

Thank you for listening, and thank you for considering fostering and adoption.  Please.

PEACHES from Parsells - rescued just Monday morning!

Spayed the following morning!

Kittens available for adoption - rescued from Niagara Street two weeks ago

Momma Cat NORA - needs adoption!

Then there is Skinny Minnie, WAS pregnant, rescued from Parsells!  She needs adoption!
Benson, rescued from Baldwin and Parsells, he needs adoption!

Have a nice day.
