Frustration

 

Let me be clear.  I am not in the business of rehoming cats.  I am in the business of rescuing them from the streets.  That's it.  There are exceptions, but very few:

1.    Kittens (I can usually find a foster for them)

2.    Pregnant cats (they WILL be spayed) (if they are friendly, I can find a foster hopefully, otherwise, they go back to the street)

That's it, folks!  I know a number of veterinarians are not giving out my number, along with other rescues, but that is not what I do, so please, don't add to my burden.  We are all going through hard times, but if you HAVE a cat, you must never get RID of the cat.  It's yours.  It's like a child.  You don't rehome a child.

Here is what I did this weekend.  I happened to listen to one of many messages that I get on my phone.  It was from a woman who lives in Geneva.  She had to move out of her apartment due to the place being bought?  renovated?  Can't remember the reason, but she had to find a home for her cats.  This woman sounded like she was in her 80s but she is really 51.  She sounded like she has had a rough life.  She said she has one cat 6 months old, Charlie (brown Tabby), and an adult cat Harley (red Tabby), who is a bit skittish.  After talking to her, (and having a glass of wine in my system), she sent me pics and I posted them on Facebook and told her story.  She had to bring them to Lollypop as I had no one to foster. 

Two of my former adopters stepped up, hating to see the cats go to a shelter where they might be euthanized due to overcrowding (and we need more kittens being born, right?).  After making arrangements, one former adopter Blanca offered to pick up and deliver them to Kim at her horse farm, where she currently is fostering Pearl for me.  She had two very nice rooms in front of her barn, and the two would go into one, right next to Pearl.  What super kind people these ladies are.  The kitties, after the initial trauma, seem to be doing better.  I hope the woman in Geneva is doing half as good.  She could not locate a place as of Sunday and had to be out by Monday.  No family except a disabled sister with four cats of her own. Her water was already shut off.  They extended her time over and over again.  She was going to try to find a place where they would allow cats.  I told her I would give her a week and reach back out.  I have to get them adopted if she cannot find a place to allow cats.  Very sad.

Mattress kitty, on Second Street, was rescued after an elderly woman mentioned to her niece, an old friend of mine, that she wanted an adult female cat.  Who better than Mattress Kitty.  I delivered her from the street that very morning.  Now, this woman is wondering if Mattress Kitty is pregnant, so I will be driving over to Marsh Road to see if this is true.  Grrrrr.
