Aayda

Thursday morning a message popped up on my rescue page of Facebook.  It was from a woman who said her husband found a kitten in a dumpster, with its legs zip-tied.  I immediately sent her my number and asked her to call me, which she did.  I asked her where the kitten was, what condition it was in, whether it had eaten, if it was walking.  Negative on all counts.  She said she was homeless.  I told her we would come get kitten within 15 minutes.  She had kitten in a box, with a sweater around it, but had the kitten for two days, and it was not eating much.  Things looked grim.  Kitten was rushed to Pittsford Animal Hospital where she remains today.  What we know:  She is a she, about 8 weeks old, and has suffered blunt force head trauma – her eyes are filled with blood – which is making it hard for her to see, and she does not have good use of her legs after being tied up for God knows how long.  The vets and technicians are taking very good care of her, and love her dearly.  One even suggested the name Aayda, which means power of the universe, and strength.  I like it.  So it is Aayda.  She will have a full blood panel today, and a few other tests if warranted.  They will continue to use eyedrops on her 3 xs a day and they even believe her one eye is looking a bit better.   I am going over there on my lunch today to visit her.  She will most likely stay overnight again, and then I need to figure things out after that.

Whatever kind of animal did this to her, may they rot in hell.  If it were kids, they are in the making to be killers.  No regard for life.  If it was an adult, then they have already hurt other animals or humans with no remorse.  Sick sick humans.

“Acts of cruelty to animals are not mere indications of a minor personality flaw in the abuser; they are symptomatic of a deep mental disturbance. Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals don’t stop there—many of them move on to their fellow humans. “Murderers … very often start out by killing and torturing animals as kids,” says Robert K. Ressler, who developed profiles of serial killers for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Studies have shown that violent and aggressive criminals are more likely to have abused animals as children than criminals who are considered non-aggressive.  Survey of psychiatric patients who had repeatedly tortured dogs and cats found that all of them had high levels of aggression toward people as well.³ According to a New South Wales newspaper, a police study in Australia revealed that “100 percent of sexual homicide offenders examined had a history of animal cruelty.”⁴ To researchers, a fascination with cruelty to animals is a red flag in the backgrounds of serial killers and rapists. According to the FBI’s Ressler, “These are the kids who never learned it’s wrong to poke out a puppy’s eyes.”

Because abusers target the powerless, crimes against animals, spouses, children, and the elderly often go hand in hand. Children who abuse animals may be repeating a lesson learned at home; like their parents, they are reacting to anger or frustration with violence. Their violence is directed at the only individual in the family who is more vulnerable than they are: an animal.”

Update on the homeless couple.  They must have borrowed someone’s phone – actually a woman who is very rude let them borrow their phone.  She hung up on me when I asked her if she saw the couple, to ask them to call me again.  Sad, so many people wanted to give them something for their kindness.

So, little Aayda continues to grow stronger every day.  I am so thankful to the people who made donations toward her care, and those that spewed their hate for animal abuse.  Channel 10 may want to do a story, I have to look into that today.  Thank you for your prayers and concern for this baby, and I will update as soon as I hear something.
