Here We Go Again

I got to my shelters at Third and Central, and someone had come along and thrown the two nice wooden huts off the back porch onto the ground, and one of the plastic huts on the front.  The board covering the front door was off also.  I can't believe this house isn't owned by the city, and I don't think the city would do this.  Would they?  Must find out who exactly owns this property.  Its one of the ones I thought was safe and secure, have been feeding here for years and years.  Poor animals must have been so confused.  God I hate people that can do this.  Really.

Sunday Sheryl and I secured some more shelters yesterday, added another tarp to the Seventh Street location.  I pray that the person that has been steeling the tarps there does not do this again.  We got it just about perfect for the kittens and kitties that call this home.  What is wrong with people.

The Smudgster
Another Smudgy update:  :)  "Today she caught a baby mouse in our basement!!! She was hanging out in the kids playroom down there even when no one was down there. I figured they left out some toys she liked but I guess she was hunting! She didn't eat it; just left it dead in the middle of the floor. Dan HATES rodents so he was thrilled. We have lived here for 11 years and had our other cats for 7 and 8 years and they never caught one!  Hopefully its the one and only but those mice better watch out w Miss Smudge around! ;)"

Here are some snaps of what I took this morning.  Be sure to click on them to see up close.

I went to a surprise party for a sweet woman in the rescue world.  She specializes in kittens.  There were several people there involved in rescue, I am sure, but I didn’t know most.  I wish sometimes I were more social, even though I am told I am very social, to go around and introduce myself to strangers.  Insecurities, they get the best of us.  I did meet one girl – I must get her name from the birthday girl – who is new to fostering, and has taken on a kitten that was sick, but much better now. I told her what I do, and she seemed interested.   However, I do notice that as big as rescue people’s hearts are the animals, there is a lot of bickering amongst them that you would think.  I don’t believe I am likable to everyone, but there is someone out there that hasn’t really talked to me in quite a while, two people actually, but this one in particular – I have reached out and asked what is wrong, but its always, ‘oh nothing’.  Well, it was quite obvious when I ran into her the other day that ‘nothing’ is something.  I wish people were more open with each other, if something is bothering you, let me know.  Let each other know, and then move on and help one another.  We can’t help these animals alone, it takes a village, ya know?  Its sad because this person was someone I could once reach out to, depend on to listen to my stuff if needed.  What did I do that was so bad?  We all need to get over our stuff and move on, for the animals, cause there aren’t enough compassionate people that do what we do, to go around!

Ok, that’s it for my spiel today.

Tomorrow is TNR morning, say a prayer for me, you know how much I hate doing it.  But it must be done.  SPAY AND NEUTER!!!   If everyone did this, I wouldn't have so much sadness in my life!

Have a great day!

"Animals cannot speak, but can you and I not speak for them and represent them?  Let us all feel their silent cry of agony and let us all help that cry to be heard in the world."

  1. I am so sad and angry that someone trashed your stuff. I have a feeling maybe it was kids - a one time thing. I will keep my fingers crossed. As for the tarp on 7th street - maybe we could put something there that is less appealing. Like maybe a functional tarp that is ugly as hell.... I will give it some thought.... It is great to see all the updates and all the happy , warm kitties that you have rescued and who have been adopted by wonderful people. You make a huge difference Janine!!

  2. What's the address to the property? The City just recently (last week) held an auction on vacant houses so it's possible someone purchased it. Or someone trying to break in tossed your stuff aside to try & get in.
