CONGRATULATIONS to JOY! You helped me, in your own way, to feed over 70 cats this morning. Thank you thank you thank you! Joy, you have been an incredible support for me ever since we met - which how far back I don't remember - you AND your mother both adopted kitties from me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and the cats thank you from the bottom of their tiny little hearts!
Little Violet made it through the surgery yesterday, and is a little hellion. Although she cuddled up with me while on the couch this morning while waiting for the clock to chirp 4 am. so that I could go out and do what I do. Every day.
I am taking a break from this blog for a bit because of the backlash from certain individuals the other day. The sadness I felt yesterday was overwhelming, making me think about what I do as a rescuer and helper to these poor animals. I've been doing this for so long, and have made it my mission in life, but to be called a cat killer, that was bit overboard for me. So I will step back a bit from this. I am still writing, just not publishing, so you will get it all once I am up to it. If you don't understand this paragraph, go back and read the comments from two days ago. You will see how hateful and hurtful people can be. You will also read how incredibly kind people can be.
Have a nice day.
Perhaps if you would have given Patches pain medicine buprenorphine that he needed for the 2 months he suffered and you were offered for FREE and didn't take, and would have let one of the rescuers that offered to take him and do the right thing for him and treat him correctly you would be called a murderer! But you didn't. You let your ego take over and patches died because of it. Ask Diane how she feels now knowing you killed him...she was shocked to learn he only had stomatitis. She too has a cat that was way worse than patches. Cured. She would have taken him and paid for it as well! You tried to sugar coat your lack of care and you deserve the backlash. People don't see the pregnant cat you demanded be aborted and the foster refused, she delivered that night!! You ARE NOT A RESCUER. You are a colony caregiver. For that the cats are blessed but you do not value life as a rescuer and should NEVER call yourself one. Funny how many have messaged me agreeing about your ego and your need to boast and brag constantly. YOUR FRIENDS telling me what I already know. Do the cats a favor if you get a sick cat turn it over immediately to someone who knows what they are doing.

DeleteYes, only stomatitis. A treatable disease with 80% cured completely with tooth removal and 20% require steroids (very cheap) when they have flare ups if not cured. Totally manageable and treatable disease. SHOULD NOT BE A DEATH SENTENCE!
DeleteCheck with any local rescue. We have all treated many cats with it, HIGHLY doubt you will find any cat euthanized for it!!
DeleteDiane? Diane who DiGravio. Talk about DRAMA QUEENS!!! She has been a thorn in the side of Habitat for Cats for many many years and has individually caused good and dedicated volunteers to leave the Organization. Unless you Janine haters can do what she does on a daily basis which I know you cannot please shut up and get a life and stay out of hers.
DeleteNo not Diane Digravio and I don't hate Janine I hate what she did and yes I do what she does too! So you shut up!
DeleteI second what the person above said. And I do what she does too, there are lots of people who do- and we do it without the fanfare, following and foolishness. And just for the record whoever that is who badmouthed Diane Digravio here for no reason whatsoever- keep your stupid opinions to yourself. I have known Diane for many years and I think VERY highly of her and I fond it incredibly hard to believe that she would have ever hsd any problem getting along with ANYONE! That statement that she caused Good and dedicated volunteers to leave Habitat for Cats cannot have an ounce of truth to it. I would be curious to know who this is that badmouthed Diane for no reason. There was absoutely NO call for that.
DeleteSo far, I've avoided getting involved in this nonsense. But I have to say that I know buprenorphine was provided.
ReplyDeleteCaring people can have a difference of opinion as to what is "best" for an animal. What is NOT best for any of these cats who are fed daily by Janine is for her to be publicly attacked and libeled because others would have done something differently, and are able to find people who agree with them.
I was not privy to any of the conversations had with the vet or anyone else regarding Patches's care so I will not even attempt to speak to that. I am not defending anything Janine has done simply because I don't need to. Nor does she.
Until I am willing to do what she has been doing day in and day out for these cats--feeding, providing shelter, seeking veterinary care, and, yes, rescuing and rehoming--I am going to give her the benefit of the doubt. If I have concerns, I will contact her privately. And, if ultimately, I decide that she and I disagree about what is best for an animal, I will wish her the best and move along.
Because while some may think an action she took is criminal--it's just not. Controversial, clearly. Criminal, no. And if Janine decides at some point that the work she does is not worth the battle, where does that leave these cats? Frankly, if it IS her ego and nothing else that keeps her going out each day, I'm okay with that.
I could not agree more and thank you for expressing the insight and thoughts I'm sure so many share but found hard to put in words. From Noodles Mom!
DeleteCould not have expressed or articulated what you conveyed above more profoundly. What I have been reading these past few days is Appalling to say the least. Many of the hateful comments and personal attacks on Janine have come from anonymous posters and that assures me you are spineless cowards. If you are truly Rescuers or Colony caregivers you are wasting precious time attacking Janine when you could be out helping animals as Janine does daily. In my opinion you owe Janine an apology at the very least. Janine(Cat Angel) keep up your Excellent work the Kitties need and appreciate it.

Clearly you don't know her as well as some of us do. Nor have you seen or heard her trash talking the last few days. She murdered this cat for NO REASON and nothing changes that. That is a fact! There was a donor, rescuer and she chose to kill him. She is no cat angel. She needs to stick to feeding the cats and not making life and death decisions on cats who she always claims aren't hers!!!
DeleteAnd I am only anonymous because I don't have an account I posted my name! Julie Lafferty!
DeleteKeep going Janine. write your heart out, help who you choose, which cat you wish to help.. it is your gig. All this over one sick sick cat. 700 dollars, donated to a organization helping children in china would help a human suffering greatly overcome cleft lips, palate, child could go to school for a year, ostomy supplies for a child who can't go to school, has no friends because his zip loc baggie can't hold the urine from is ostomy, help a child have life saving surgery for heart defects. etc. We are attacking a human being with a heart and soul over her choice and decision, and people do not have all the facts because some of us act anonymously and don't publish what we do. probably to avoid being subject to a rant and rave from someone who can't even be civil and carry on a two way discussion without threatening to call the police once she learns the cat was treated for pain. Perhaps some folks have learned to not share everything with everyone due to the vicious unsolicited attacks on someone who is trying to help.
ReplyDeleteJust cause everyone has different opinions and would proceed a different way if they were in charge, doesn't mean they have the right to personally bash someone else's decisions..
Every person reading this blog fell in love with Patches. It was flippin' sad what he was faced with and had to endure. It's incomprehensible what all of these cats she takes care of are facing every day. Be angry, pissed off, enraged at that and the people that tossed them out there. Did she make the right decision? We aren't the ones who will judge her at the end of her life. She will have to answer to someone one day for her actions, just as those who are vehemently expressing their views of what she did, will. In my opinion, I hope if this ever happens again, she will reach out to anyone that is willing to help. I think that's what you rescue people do. You help those that are helpless or tossed away, by any means necessary. All of this fighting is doing the exact opposite- it's dividing people, making people choose sides, second guess, etc.. Enough of it, you cannot bring Patches back. Be angry but do something positive in his memory. Educate her & others about stomatitis, send her articles about it, drop off bags of food to her, donate, adopt, spread the word about these cats in the city, whatever... all you are doing at this moment, is pushing people away from her and anyone else like her that is trying to help homeless cats. How do I know that? Because I am one of those people that truly wants to help and has when I can. However, seeing this makes me want to run far & fast. I'm sure there are others like me too that want to be far, far away from this negativity. In the end, where does that leave the next Patches, Prince, Parsley, Tuffy, Violet, etc? It leaves them cold, hungry, and alone, dodging cars and evil people. For the love of these animals that are struggling every single day, YOU all owe it to them to work together if you call yourself an animal lover/rescuer. Their lives depend on it.....
ReplyDelete** Janine- You do what you need to, but if you have people that donated towards your 'Feed a Cat for Christmas' campaign, they should get their 5 seconds of fame in print so everyone can say their silent thank you's as many of us have done over the past 16 days.
