Yesterday was a whirlwind. Someone tagged me on a crime alert post because someone in the 19th Ward found a cooler bag with kittens inside. Mother was just there also. She needed help. I offered advice, and then I offered to take them because no one was really stepping up to the plate that I could see had any experience whatsoever with newborns. I surely don't, but it seemed to me that I would have been the best choice. Another woman, who knew where this woman that posted this, went over there and got the kittens, zipped them and the mother up in the bag, and drove them directly to my house, where they were immediately placed inside a cage. Once kittens and mother were out, kittens were nursing heartily. Mother turned out to be a sweetheart. All was good.
This morning, I found little red outside his cage, dead. I wrapped him up sorrowfully, and went out on my route. I got back from my route just now, and went to check on babies. Couldn't find them. Moved mother, and they were under her, dead. I held them, tried to give them a drop of formula, nothing. I can't believe this happened. I don't know WHY it happened. Here I sat on my porch last evening reading up on how to care for newborns, and how critical certain stages of their growth are critical from day to day.
Poor babies - all three are in heaven now. |
So much other news but I must end here. I may have another four kittens delivered today. So much going on. So many people reaching out to me for help. I just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Wish me luck, and have a good day yourself.
Janine, thank you for trying to help these babies. In all probability, they may have passed from Fading Kitten Syndrome. RIP little ones...so heartbreaking, I know. Some people would say good riddance...we have an overabundance of kittens, but I think every little furry life is precious.
ReplyDeleteI am so surprised and saddened by this news. Yesterday all seemed well. I guess God had a different plan for them. All I know is that they passed peacefully, safe and cared for in a loving home. Not in a cooler bag, alone in the city. Hugs to everyone who helps this little family.
ReplyDeletetoo much stress for them... probably a bunch of reasons.. wore them down...god bless you Janine
